Loud, Louder, Loudest . . .

Last winter Jeremiah wanted me to listen to his pan/shovel and see if I could tell what was making noise.  The noise wasn't loud enough.  I couldn't tell where it was coming from (sounded just a bit loose).  I said it would have to get louder before I could pinpoint the problem.  Well, it got louder !   This engine had multiple problems . . . so he wants to strip off the shovel top - and restore it to full Panhead . . . !

What do you figure caused the skirt failure noot? Flywheels binding, thrusting the skirt into the cylinder wall?

It was loud alright, made one hell of a noise when it let loose...still ran another 30 miles though...haha never forget the amount of oil and smoke coming out of the exhaust...pretty good weekend

Definitely some signs of fatigue with that one . . . amazing she ran for thirty more miles, despite the 'soda can' slugs, testament to a pretty sturdy old motor design.
