I've noticed many of the actual H-D Race Team engines have serial
numbers that start with "5" (or have a 5 in there somewhere)
I don't believe this is the original motor that went the distance . . . but it's got some rare parts, cases, heads, carb, etc . . . I looked in and saw the seat where Cal sat . . . and the handlebars that come apart with one bolt to help you get in . . . just like On Any Sunday. My whole $9.00 admission charge(regularly $10.00, but I used my AMA card to get a $1 discount) was spent looking at this thing. The pipes were falling off . . .

I've been checkin' out all my endplay, bushing fit, magneto gear mesh distance . . . oh, and my generator gear lash.
Made some gear cover dowel pins, fitted my cyl. base studs and drilled my case for 5/16" generator bolts. New idler gear bushing and everything looks good considering this thing was a mess . . .

My cylinders are over at McFarland's (he's using Noot's live center cone) to turn about .100 off the bases to get my pistons up a bit more where we want 'em. Always something . . . .

This tool has a special "step" to install the Torringtons the correct depth.
I did get a few things done before I left to go play . . .
I sourced these special copper washers to get my installed spring correct if needed . . .
They fit perfectly over the guides (and under the lower collar)
