RETRO REWIND = Cars & Guitars, Chix & Flix

Now hang with me if you can on this . . . John Wells and crew totally nailed it with this show.  I'd never really seen anything like it.  You could check out hand selected rows of rods & bikes, take a stroll(inside) over to a fancy deco movie theatre and walk right in on a showing of "7 Second Love Affair" . . . walk back over and grab a chili, tall boy PBR and check out the swap, retro clothing, movies, art, a half dozen pinstriping artists, a guitar collection like I haven't seen in years, pin-up ladies everywhere, a freak show, another PBR, walk back for a glimpse at "6 Over" . . . back again and again for 3 more cool movies . . . all for $10 I'm talkin' sensory overload again and again.  I was there for almost 7 hours - and I missed the Friday Nite festivities - and left before Nikki Hill took the stage with more bands.  Next year I'll be there Friday thru Sunday - You're all invited to come along . . . Good Times.  Awesome Show !

Walk to work . . .

Almost every morning I walk to work and wave to craftsmen, workers, bankers, (I don't wave at lawyers), people taking kids to school, etc. . . . and I also check in with my friend - The River Otter (a North American River Otter to be exact).  I watch him fish.  He watches me drink my coffee.  We are both up early and we notice the same things.  The entire Cedar River is ours for a few moments everyday.  Nature and the changing seasons at their best.  I saw him last winter and the winter before.  I never see him in the summer, he must go back downstream?  He catches the walleyes I can't.  I settle for baked Hake.

RECIPE: Crashed Potatoes

1. Cook small yellows or reds (boil, steam or 'wave)
2. Prepare cookie sheet with foil and olive oil
3. Smash them down and bake at 400 for 20 mins.
(season as desired; we use black pepper & sea salt)
4. They get crisp edges - very unique flavor !
5. Serve with Schwann's baked Hake & Veg of choice

SUPERGLIDE

You take the letter F (from FLH) and the letter X (from XL) - add a Sportster front end to the FLH and what do you get ?
Answer:  You get an FX " The Superglide "

Garvis Honda - Des Moines, Iowa

If you go to Church of Choppers blog (link on the right),
Jeff Wright did a neat post about George Garvis
and his Honda dealership.
A pack of cool photos of his dirt track bikes and riders.

Roth Studios

You think maybe the framework on end is
an Orbitron or Mysterion
glass dome jig ?
Just think what it would have been like to step through
that door - see his shop . . . and hang for a sunny
California day with Big Daddy Roth ?
He'd put us to work !

Who needs heat?

Anybody can have the ugly fiber spacer.
I need the heat - It's Iowa !

Ironheads & Bubble Shields

I like how the old Sportsters look goin' down the road.  I never get to really see this view since I'm usually on one myself.  The best motorcycle ever.  ( thanks Zen ! )

Quad' - 2 DVD Set

This DVD package is great !  The vintage film footage of The Who on the bonus disc is worth the purchase price.  These band-mates (in their early 20s) zone in their own worlds, yet groove as a complete machine.  Superb movie, superb interviews . . . it's a deal at any price.  Remastered and excellent.

Bearing Race Honing Fixture

When you press new races into cases - the ID(inside diameter) shrinks.  If you have +.0025 press fit, your race could possibly shrink .002 or more.  When the races come from the manufacturer, they are usually undersize.  If I press the race into the case as is - I may have to line lap up to .005 from the race to meet the correct size needed.  That's a lot of lapping my friends.  McFarland made me this fixture which will allow me to use our Sunnen Hone to take some material out of the race before-hand.  Then we press it in . . . and lap .001 or .002 out of the race and save wear and tear on our lapper and give me more time to watch The Waltons reruns.
