French Connection

This thing blew my mind.  I really liked it.  Couldn't figure out how to shift it?  Hope it got some type of recognition . . . It was so tiny and compact.

Gloria Struck

I got the pleasure to meet Gloria Struck (a Motor Maid of 54+ years) and Cris Simmons (the only woman to compete in the recent 1919 Cannonball).  We kept asking Gloria about her adventures in motorcycling - and the stories kept coming.  Quite a lady.  They inducted her into the hall of fame this year.  Cris is way cool too.  She rode a 1915 Harley in the event.  My sista Bets got 65mph on her Sporty this year (that is until I secretly change the main jet and raise the needle)

It's worth the Tripp . . .

. . . to the Tripp Bar in Tripp, SD.  If he ain't seen you for awhile - he'll give ya a FREE DRINK TICKET for the next time.  The best pizza I've ever had.  Hint: Order the "To Go" pizza - and have 'em cook it for you.  The owner is from Cali . . . but, he got sick of it - so he bought this place and moved out here with the rest of us yahoos.  Not a bad place to be.

In the flesh . . .

I'd seen it in books, magazines, on blogs, websites . . . etc.  But, hey - here it is - in person.  Fuckin' aye - it's Dave's Panhead.  Really neat.  Has that aura about it.  Don't get too close.  Keeps your eyes moving for more and more discoveries.  Functional AND Custom.  One-of-a-Kind.  I've met the man - and now the machine.  Not bad Dave.  Now I have to buy the shirt.  Thanks for sending it to Sturgis. ( I liked the front pipe mount to the relay boss )

Pure Sweetness

" I'll have a double . . . "  Angels do exist !

Nitro Maniacs

It takes some serious guts to ride a Harley Top Fuel Motorcycle.  Just try to keep it pegged the whole run.  They ran 150mph in the 1/8 at Sturgis Dragway.  My eyes burned.  My heart raced with them.  Wow.

Hillbilly done did Deadwood

Met a Canadian named Hillbilly.  Riders from Canada usually always impress me since they have a limited riding season and still seem to get out there.  His motorcycle was customized, yet functional.  He saw the "Church" sticker on my battery box - and we had something in common.  Nice to meet you Sir - Ride Hard and Ride Safe !

RIP Gary Nixon

I remember meeting Nixon in Rodney Farris's tent during the Camel Pro Dirt Track years.  Gary helped mentor Farris (and it was really helping, since Farris was runnin' at the front about every week.  Rod's first set of leathers were an old pair of Nixon's he threw in the trash - Rod's dad dug them out, cleaned them up and wore them.  Nixon was still very active in the sport.  Maybe you've seen him in some recent magazine articles with those replica Triumph racers?  Really sucks to lose one of the legends of the sport - and a heck of a cool guy.  I still have his autograph in a book about motorcycle racing.  That's why Springsteen chose #9.

Thunder Head Falls

Check it out.  A nice, cool place to visit while in the Black Hills.  Also see Spearfish Canyon, Whitewood, Bear Butte Lake, Nemo, Rochford, Terry Peak and  Boondocks. (and maybe The Dungeon?)

Sneeky's 883R

Did a bit o' stripes fer a local dude from way back - you dig it?  He ride dirt, road, ice . . . fixes Yammys, Kaws . . . ride Red too.  Got hisself a 833R now.  Goes hard on it.  He be kewl now.  Got stripes.  Dew hiz lid too. Now he find dit in da parkin' lot - he stick out now.  Chics dig it.  Meet new peeps ! You dig bro?

More my scene . . .

Willards in Colo, Iowa is a small shop with lots o' personality.  I like Willard.  He always has coffee brewin' and it's fun to look around at all the stuff.  The shop is an antique gas station - and a train (or two at a time) whizzes by every 5 minutes - to make you shout when talking bikes Classic shop - classic proprietor.

Not my scene anymore . . .

Hornung Cycle was formerly a really cool shop.  A huge collection of Triumphs and other British marks.  The guy that ran it was the 'hub' of the shop.  He and his wife - first class motorcycle people with stories to tell.  He's gone now - and the shop just ain't the same.
All quads and crap.

The Original

Burt Munro's Indian on display in New Zealand.  (photo sent to me)  Just wanted you to know that this is the original - not the one in the movie of coarse.  He wanted his motorcycle to stay in New Zealand where it remains today.

A family that goes fast together . . .

lasts forever . . . Ron Fringer and ironhead drag bike.

Production Numbers

They make so many Harleys now.  What's gonna happen to all of them?  There's so many out there.  I saw some 2012 models the other day and they look like total shit.  All plastic and fake.  Who are they paying to design these things?  Yuk. You see these guys riding to Born Free and all these events on their old, cool iron - which, by the way they don't make anymore.  I don't think I will ever be able to buy a new Harley-Davidson and it makes me kinda sad.  I like Harleys best - it's been my brand my whole life.  My family was supported by Harleys . . . but, I'd rather spend $20,000 on a 1947 Knucklehead.  Too bad so sad.  Maybe a ZX-14?
Hmmmmmm?

Dennis

Going to see his brother sing, play guitar and some piano Sunday night . . . when a hall-of-famer is this close - better go see 'em.
